Hey there, productivity enthusiast! ✨ If you’ve ever felt like your to-do list is an endless scroll of doom and your brain is constantly in 17 different places at once, you’re not alone. Time blocking will become your best friend!
Today we’re diving into a time management technique that’s perfect for those of us who are chronically overwhelmed but still want to embrace our much-ness rather than trying to be less… well, us!
Embracing Your Much-ness
First things first – let’s get something straight. Being “a lot” isn’t something we need to fix. Your enthusiasm, your passions, your ideas that come a mile a minute – that’s what makes you YOU! The goal of time blocking isn’t to squash your personality into a rigid box, but to create a cute container that helps all your wonderful much-ness flourish.
Trust me, I have spent way too much time in my life trying to be a certain way when it comes to “getting my life together”. Turns out, my life was just fine and I only needed to embrace who I was and use my own superpowers to enhance anything in my life.

What Is Time Blocking (The Cutesy Way)?
Time blocking is simply the practice of dedicating specific chunks of time to specific activities. But the cutesy approach? That’s where we make it actually enjoyable rather than another boring productivity system that feels like something a corporate robot would use.
With cutesy time blocking, we:
- Use colors, stickers, and cute visuals to make our schedule delightful
- Build in buffer time for our squirrel-brain moments
- Celebrate our wins with tiny happy faces and sparkles
- Accept that some days, the plan will go completely sideways (and that’s okay!)
Why Time Blocking Works for the Chronically Overwhelmed
When your brain feels like it’s constantly running seventeen tabs and you can’t seem to focus on one thing, time blocking gives you permission to focus on JUST ONE THING at a time.
The magic happens because:
- It eliminates the constant “what should I do next?” question Your cutesy schedule already decided for you! Look at those cute little time blocks telling you exactly what to focus on.
- It gives overwhelmed brains the structure they crave Underneath all that chaos, most of us actually thrive with a bit of structure. Time blocking provides just enough organization without feeling suffocating.
- It reduces the mental load of task-switching Each time you jump between tasks, your brain uses energy. Time blocking keeps you in one lane, saving all that precious mental energy!
- It makes time visible When everything feels urgent, seeing your day mapped out helps you make realistic choices about what can actually fit.
How to Create Your Cutesy Time Blocking System
Ready to embrace time blocking while still keeping things cute and accepting your wonderful much-ness? Let’s do this!
Step 1: Choose Your Digital Canvas
You’ll need a place to create your time blocks. While you could use a regular calendar app, where’s the fun in that? I recommend using:
- GoodNotes with a cute digital planner
- Google Sheets with a colorful template
- A specialized digital planning app with stickers and customization options
Step 2: Color-Code Your Life Areas
Assign a color to each area of your life. This makes your schedule instantly scannable and way more fun to look at!
For example:
- 💖 Pink for self-care activities
- 💚 Green for money/business tasks
- 💙 Blue for learning/skill development
- 💜 Purple for creative projects
- 🧡 Orange for social time
- ❤️ Red for urgent matters
Don’t just pick random colors – choose ones that make you happy and match your aesthetic! This is YOUR system.

Step 3: Start with the Big Rocks
Begin filling in your schedule with non-negotiables and important commitments. These are your “big rocks” – the things that structure your day:
- Meetings
- Classes
- Appointments
- Deadlines
- Important routines (like meal times)
Be realistic here! Don’t try to squeeze everything into impossible timeframes. Give yourself generous buffers between activities.
Step 4: Create Focus Blocks for Your Projects
Now add blocks dedicated to specific projects or types of work. Instead of writing vague things like “work on business,” be specific:
- “Design new budget tracker template”
- “Write blog post about time blocking”
- “Brainstorm new product ideas”
This is where time blocking really shines for the overwhelmed brain – it tells you exactly what to focus on in that moment!
Step 5: Add Buffer Blocks
Here’s where traditional time blocking advice gets it wrong. If you’re chronically overwhelmed, you NEED buffer time. I like to add:
- 15-minute buffers between most activities
- At least one 30-minute “catch-up” block each day
- A full hour of “whatever I forgot” time at the end of the workday
Label these blocks with something cute like “Brain Break” or “Squirrel Time” to remind yourself that these moments of flexibility are built into your day on purpose!
Step 6: Don’t Forget Joy!
Most important of all – schedule things that bring you JOY! Block time for:
- Your favorite hobbies
- Rest and relaxation
- That show you’re binge-watching
- Connecting with people you love
Time blocking isn’t just about productivity – it’s about making sure all the important parts of your life get the attention they deserve.
When Time Blocking Meets Reality
Let’s be real – no day goes exactly according to plan. The cutesy approach to time blocking embraces this reality instead of fighting it!
When things go sideways:
- Use cute “rescheduled” stickers to move blocks around
- Have a digital “parking lot” for tasks that didn’t happen
- Include a section for “wins” no matter how small
- Never beat yourself up for needing to adjust
Remember, your schedule works for YOU, not the other way around.

Embracing Structure Without Losing Your Spark
Remember when I said we’d be embracing our much-ness? That’s the real secret here. Time blocking isn’t about constraining yourself or becoming someone you’re not. It’s about creating a container that helps your unique brilliance shine even brighter.
By giving each part of your day a dedicated space, you’re actually freeing up mental energy to be MORE creative, MORE enthusiastic, and MORE yourself. No more constant guilt about what you “should” be doing instead – you know exactly where everything fits.
