Serpent & Dove is this fantastic enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance where Lou, a sassy witch who’s hiding from her coven, ends up in a forced marriage to Reid, a super strict witch hunter who literally exists to hunt people like her. They’re both keeping major secrets from each other (obviously), and watching them go from absolutely hating each other to catching feelings while trying to maintain their covers is chef’s kiss. The story is set in this French-inspired world where the Church is incredibly powerful and witches are basically public enemy number one, which makes their whole situation even more complicated and tension-filled. There’s tons of witty banter, some great side characters (including Lou’s best friend who’s a blood witch), and this whole larger conflict brewing between the Church and different magical factions. Plus, Shelby Mahurin does this amazing job of balancing the romance with actual danger and political intrigue, so you get both the swoony moments and genuine stakes!

Six Crimson Cranes is this beautiful fantasy inspired by East Asian folklore about Princess Shiori who secretly has magic (which is totally forbidden in her kingdom). Things go sideways when her stepmother turns out to have some serious magical secrets of her own and curses Shiori in the worst way – she transforms Shiori’s six brothers into cranes and makes it so Shiori can’t speak or reveal who she is without deadly consequences. Our girl has to figure out how to save her brothers while basically starting from scratch – no royal privileges, no voice, just her wits and determination. There’s this sweet slow-burn romance with someone from her past life who doesn’t recognize her now, plus dragons (yes, actual dragons!), court politics, and some really cool magical elements like enchanted paper birds. Elizabeth Lim does such an amazing job weaving together fairy tale vibes with Asian mythology, and watching Shiori grow from a sheltered princess into someone who has to be clever and resourceful to survive is so satisfying!

The Bridge Kingdom is such an addictive enemies-to-lovers fantasy! So you’ve got Lara, who’s been trained since childhood as a warrior-assassin with one mission: marry the king of the Bridge Kingdom (this strategically crucial kingdom that controls all trade routes) and destroy it from within. She marries King Aren, who’s initially super cold and suspicious of her (rightfully so, tbh), and they have this amazing tension-filled dynamic where neither trusts the other but they’re legally bound together. The Bridge Kingdom itself is this fascinating place built on massive bridges over dangerous waters, with a warrior culture that values strength and loyalty above everything. As Lara starts actually living there and dealing with real threats to the kingdom alongside Aren, things get… complicated, especially when it comes to where her loyalties should lie. There’s tons of political intrigue, great action sequences, morally gray characters making tough choices, and this slow-burn romance where both characters are basically like “I absolutely cannot fall for you but oh no, I think I am.” It’s got that perfect mix of romance and political fantasy that keeps you hooked!

The Shadows Between Us is this wickedly fun fantasy where Alessandra shows up with a three-step plan: seduce the Shadow King, marry him, then kill him for the crown – and she’s not even slightly sorry about it! King Kallias has this wild shadow magic that literally prevents anyone from touching him, which throws a major wrench in Alessandra’s usual playbook of using her charms to get what she wants. These two end up circling each other like sharks, each trying to outmaneuver the other while pretending to play nice at court. The cool thing is Alessandra never gets a redemption arc or turns all sweet and noble – she stays delightfully ruthless and ambitious from start to finish, which is honestly so refreshing in YA fantasy. Between the assassination attempts, court drama, magical mysteries surrounding the king’s powers, and watching these two schemers slowly catch feelings while still plotting against each other, it’s impossible to put down. If you’re into stories where the heroine is unapologetically power-hungry and the romance involves two people who’d probably poison each other’s wine given half a chance, this book is absolutely your jam!

Spin the Dawn is basically Project Runway meets Mulan with magic – like seriously! Maia Tamarin dreams of becoming the imperial tailor but there’s one tiny problem: only men can hold that position. So when her sick father gets summoned to court for a sewing competition, she pulls a classic Mulan and disguises herself as a boy to compete in his place. But here’s where it gets wild – the emperor orders his tailors to create the legendary dresses of the goddess Amana, which are literally impossible to make without magic (we’re talking dresses made from moonlight, sunlight, and the blood of stars – no pressure!). Then there’s Eijun, the super mysterious and annoyingly handsome court magician who offers to help her on a quest to gather these magical materials, though naturally he’s got secrets of his own. Their journey together has them facing gods, demons, and ancient magic, while Maia tries to balance her determination to succeed, her growing magical abilities, and some seriously complex feelings about her traveling companion. This book blends Chinese culture, fantasy adventure, fashion competition, and sweet romance into something totally unique – it’s like if you mixed magical realism with historical fantasy and threw in some absolutely gorgeous descriptions of impossible dresses!

Realm Breaker drops you straight into chaos – these ancient magical gateways called spindles are cracking open across the world, and if someone doesn’t stop them, it’s basically apocalypse time. Enter Corayne, who’s living her quiet life by the sea until she finds out surprise! she’s the secret daughter of some legendary knight and apparently the only person who can prevent total destruction (thanks for the heads up, universe). She gets yanked into this quest with the most dysfunctional group imaginable: there’s Dom, this thousand-year-old immortal who’s grieving his fallen brothers and absolutely terrible at human emotions; Sorasa, an assassin whose moral compass points firmly toward “whatever pays best”; Andry, a squire carrying enough survivor’s guilt to sink a ship; and Valtik, this witch who speaks in riddles that make zero sense until suddenly they do. Meanwhile, the bad guys are racing to tear open a portal to unleash what’s essentially a demon god, because why not? Victoria Aveyard weaves together all these broken people who’d rather stab each other than work together, but watching them slowly become something like a family while trying to prevent the end of the world? That’s where the magic happens. Think Lord of the Rings energy but with characters who curse more and trust less, set in a world where immortals walk among mortals and every kingdom has its own agenda.
